An excerpt from the Watchers' Journals about Breal demons...

...Typically, these creatures are marked by their overall coloring, which includes blue or blue-black hair, crystal pale to sky blue skin, and solid blue eyes from sclera to pupil and back again, often refracting light in a manner that gives the illusion of solid diamonds where eyes ought to be. Their overall uniform appearance is marred only by skull protrusions at the cheekbones and jaw, as well as dingy yellow fangs that often protrude from beneath the upper lip.

The Breal do possess some physical advantages over humans and other demons, but their overall physicality is rather limited. Their psychic power, however, is truly terrifying in its purest form. These creatures are nothing less than psychic vampires that feed not simply on energy, but knowledge. Along with telepathic abilities as well as a flawless memory, the Breal have the power to not simply read, but remove thoughts and memories from a human mind...siphoning them away like a vampire does so much blood. As of this date, two of our number have fallen at the hands of the Breal, resulting in various security measures to ensure we are always protected, as are our charges.

Our single ray of hope against demons with this kind of power is their desire to coexist with humanity. Though traditionally, their abilities have made them dark gods to some, and imbued their culture with a certain level of mysticism, they see the value of worldly riches and power. To that end, they have developed into an interesting form of breeding clan over the centuries. Mating selectively with humans, they have created among their number those who carry the blood but pass almost completely for human. Because they cannot determine if or how these passing children are created, the Breal exist in very large families, and value childbearing women most highly. Middle children are seen as blessed depending on the numbers of siblings surrounding them on either side, and those who bear no sign of their heritage are often prized, and held to a far stricter standard of conduct than others of their ilk.

This is necessary in their number, for those with human faces also carry human hearts while demon blood flows through their veins. These children have very little of the power that is their birthright, but every once in a while their human blood prevails over their darker halves, giving good a chance to triumph against an enemy that, if provoked, could destroy us all...
